The University is pleased to support the Hedd Wyn Classic Car Run, an event which has been organised to commemorate the centenary of the First World War Battle of Passchendaele and, in particular, the centenary of the death of the Welsh poet Ellis Humphrys, known as “Hedd Wyn”. He was killed at Passchendaele on July 31, 1917.

Hedd WynThe cars will leave from the “Towers Hotel”, Fabian Way on the morning of July 27, 2017 and return on August 1, 2017.

Due to accommodation constraints, the run will be restricted to 15 cars. The run has already proven to be an attractive event amongst the classic car fraternity, but there are two places remaining.

Any members of staff of the University, local authorities or other organisations, who might be interested in the event, are advised to register as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment.‌

For further information and to request the registration form, please contact the organiser directly, namely Huw Morris, the Director of Academic Partnerships at Swansea University, Tel: 01792 295344.

Classic CarsUniversity staff will be able to see the cars since the convoy of classic cars will call into the Bay Campus before heading on to Belgium.

The group will attend commemorative events at the battlefield, attend a concert and visit First World War museums.

However, the focus will be the Commemorative Service for the Welsh soldiers who were killed at the Battle of Passchendaele, to be held on July 31, 2017.
