Swansea University’s Professor Stefan Doerr, will be participating in a Reddit Science "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) on Tuesday 14 November.

Reddit AMAs prompt others to ask questions about any topic. AMAs are open to all Reddit users, and use the site's comment system for both questions and answers.

The Physical Geography professor in Swansea University’s College of Science, and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Wildland Fire, will host the event alongside journalist Nicola Jones and Dr Mike Flannigan, professor at the University of Alberta’s Department of Renewable Resources.

Organised by Yale Environment 360 (E360), the AMA will focus on the increasing frequency and intensity of worldwide wildfires, a subject which was reported on in a recent E360 story, Stark Evidence: A Warmer World Is Sparking More and Bigger Wildfires. The story was written by Nicola Jones, and features the work of several scientists including Professor Doerr.

Wildfire - Stefan Doerr

Throughout his career, Professor Doerr has investigated the environmental impacts that wildfires can impose, focussing on the relationships between fire severity, fire frequency, carbon dynamics and post-fire responses of burned terrain in:

  • Europe
  • Australia (including the catastrophic ‘Black Saturday’ fires of 2009)
  • North America.

The event will start at 6pm GMT.
