A One day workshop for teachers of A Level Maths/Further Maths
Saturday 25th April 2015 – Cardiff University
10.00am – 2.00pm

This one day course covers ICT topics and is aimed at teachers with some experience of teaching A level Mathematics, looking at the use of ICT and online resources in the delivery of A Level Maths. The course will give participants insight into using Technology for teaching A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. 

The workshop will be delivered by Ben Sparks http://www.bensparks.co.uk, an MEI consultant who is based at the University of Bath and works as a tutor and a freelance maths enrichment speaker around the UK – including the Maths Inspiration project. Ben has a BA (Hons) in Mathematical Sciences from Merton College, Oxford and an MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing, from Somerville College, Oxford. He trained as a secondary maths teacher and now teaches online for the MEI’s Further Maths Support Programme, with their Live Online Tuition and Live Interactive Lectures, and also runs professional development for teachers. Ben is a very inspirational speaker and delivers a lot of talks at student conferences and enrichment events across the country.

Registration will be from 10.00am and Coffee/Tea will be available on arrival.  Topics will include:

What Digital technologies are available for you to enhance your teaching of A-level  Mathematics? GeoGebra and other technologies. Integral Resources www.integralmaths.org.uk and using Graphing Technology in Further Pure.

The Creation of Number – an enrichment talk weaving the history of maths in with relevant exam maths, and some unashamed enrichment on Geogebra in the Bargain. 

There will be plenty of hand-on activities.

A light lunch will be provided at the end of the workshop from 1.30pm.
