Our Movember Moments

It’s that time of year when all our sports teams come together to raise money and support for the leading charity that’s doing such incredible work to change the face of men’s health– Movember.

Here at Sport Swansea, Movember is a campaign that’s really close to our hearts.

Each year our clubs get involved to support this growing movement, with each sport contributing in their own unique way. Whether it’s growing out their moustaches or arranging charity matches against other clubs, Sport Swansea clubs come together in November each year to support one another and raise as much money as they can for this amazing cause.

This year, the clubs have put on an engaging display of fundraising mo-ments throughout November, including running, cycling, or rowing events, rent-a-gent initiatives and Trivia nights.

One club in particular who smashed their Movember target was the Swansea Titans, who raised £1,745 through their various fundraising efforts, including ‘Rent-A-Gent’ to help with your day-to-day tasks. Another club who really impressed us with their incredible fundraising is the Lacrosse team, raising a whopping £1,938 through their pub quiz nights and bring-a-friend Movember sessions.

However, the club that took the win in the Movember leader board was our University Hockey club, who raised an impressive £3763.77 throughout the month. With a range of fundraising activities, including ‘Move for Movember Parkrun’, charity fixtures, members shaving their hair and one hockey player completely an incredible three 70.3 Ironman distances, the club smashed their target and went above and beyond to raise awareness for this charity. Following closely were the Men’s Rugby Union team who managed to raise another breath-taking amount of £3690.88.

On the 15th of November, our ‘Movember Triple Headline’ saw Women’s Hockey, Men’s Football and Men’s Rugby fixtures selling over 500 raffle tickets for some incredible prizes, with all funds being donated to the Movember cause.

The raffle draw took place at the Swansea Come Dancing event on the 23rd of November, where the student contestants competed against one another to win the title and individually raise money for the Movember cause.

To finish the month off, students from across the University came together to take part in a fun but rather chilly fancy dress Mo Dip, at Caswell beach!

The current total raised by Swansea University sits at £28,306 and climbing! Every year the teams at Sport Swansea continue to find new and increasingly creative ways to raise money for the Movember cause, and we look forward to seeing what new fundraising events they come up with next!
