Our teams are getting ready!

With the Welsh Varsity just a few weeks away, excitement is starting to build around the sporting festival and our students and staff are getting ready for one of the biggest Varsity events in the UK!

Our Welsh Varsity rivals, Cardiff University, will be heading down the road on the 24th April to Swansea, where over 50 clubs will be competing to take home the shield!

The Welsh Varsity has become a big Swansea University tradition and dates back decades to the first ever event which took place in Cardiff. Welsh Varsity continues to grow year on year to what is now a key date in the sporting calendar for both Swansea and Cardiff University.

This event brings students, staff, and alumni together as one for a day of sport, celebrations, and of course some good, old-fashioned and friendly Swansea v Cardiff rivalry.

After an early start of 7AM and a busy day of supporting and cheering on the clubs in their fixtures at the Swansea Bay Sports Park, thousands of students dressed in green and white will be attending the Men’s and Women’s rugby fixture where they will head to Swansea.com stadium to cheer on the Green and White Army!

Varsity is for everyone, uniting all our teams, and of course our Green and White Army, in this historic challenge against Cardiff. It’s one of the most memorable days in our university event calendar and a major part of our sporting experience at Swansea.

Delivering Varsity is a huge endeavour and brings our clubs and Students’ Union together with Sport Swansea and other University staff to deliver what is always an event to remember!

Our elected Sports Officer, Meg Chagger said:

“As anticipation builds for the Welsh Varsity, plans are fully underway, and the countdown has officially begun. I can't wait to see our athletes showcase their talent and determination on the field, and I'm confident that this year's Varsity will be a highlight in the student calendar!
