Mission Statement

This Research Institute aims to enhance the already coherent, connected, and supported pan university semiconductor community.

Our active group includes staff from multiple areas of the University including Physics, Engineering, Materials and Chemistry. We organise and encourage mentoring and support programmes and continuously see huge benefits from the strong industry connections that we have developed over the last 3 years.

Our themes of work have been defined with our main industry partners (SU, IQE, SPTS and NWF):

  • Efficient power electronics
  • Clean energy systems
  • Ionics and O-the-H
  • Bio-nano and sensing

In 2023 our brand new £50M CISM facility on Swansea University’s Bay Campus officially opened. This building has been created with the purpose of bringing together semiconductor and advanced materials platforms and processes to deliver new technologies and products.

Where manufacturing meets research and development, CISM will provide a range of specialist services including prototyping and process development, incubation, engagement, training and access to the UK and EU innovation grants portfolio.

Together we will create the skills and talent to keep our industry at the leading edge.
