For the last 2 years, Liberata’s Middle Office and Automation Services Team has collaborated with Swansea University’s final year project initiative to provide students with real-world experience and prepare them for challenges in the workplace.
This case study highlights the success story of our team member, Matthew, a former Swansea University student who participated in the final year project initiative and successfully secured employment at Liberata as a Finance Specialist.
Matthew’s journey began as a student participating in Swansea University’s final year project initiative. Through this module, Matthew gained valuable skills and experiences that would later prove instrumental in his career at Liberata. The module provided Matthew with a platform to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, enhancing his problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
Upon completing his studies, Matthew transitioned into a role at Liberata, where he continues to thrive. Utilising the skills and experiences gained during his participation in the final year project initiative, Matthew has quickly integrated into the Middle Office and Automation Services Team.
Matthew commented, “The year-long module was useful in many ways, notably the group presentation, which required being comfortable with presenting to senior colleagues as well as an in-depth understanding of the research my team and I had undertaken. While further modules such as “Investment Banking” and my “Year in Industry” were where I drew most of my learning from, Swansea University’s Final Year project initiative definitely contributed to the real-life experiences that I incorporate into my work.”
Ruth Smith, Liberata’s Director of Middle Office and Automation Services, remarked on Matthew’s recent performance when required to present his idea for senior manager consideration. Within the Middle Office and Automation Services Team, employees are encouraged to put forward suggestions for service and process improvements through the bespoke Ingenuity Champion initiative. This initiative fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team, empowering team members like Matthew to contribute their ideas and drive positive change. Ruth noted that it was evident from his Ingenuity Champion presentation Matthew had utilised the skills and experience gained during his participation in the final year project initiative. Ruth emphasised the importance of such skills for employees and highlighted the academic framework benefits provided by collaborations with institutions like Swansea University.
