Charley Davies places at the WKU World Champs!

We always enjoy celebrating our Sports Scholars and this time we are shining the light on Charley Davies, who took to the stage at the WKU World Championships last month winning four medals!

Charley travelled to Alberta, Calgary, Canada to compete in the Point Fighting and Karate Kumite events that took place at the 5,000 capacity Seven Chiefs Sportsplex from 16th – 22nd October 2023.

Charley is a 1st year student studying Education and is on a martial arts Sport Scholarship. Charley started kickboxing when she was just 4 years old, and last month she came away from her second World Championships with an incredible three bronze medals and one silver medal. This is an incredible success, and we are extremely proud of what Charley has achieved.

Results:
-55kg; BRONZE in Point Fighting
-55kg; BRONZE in Karate Kumite
-Open weight; BRONZE in Point Fighting
-Open weight; SILVER in Karate Kumite

Not only does Charley have a passion for kickboxing, but also musical theatre. She is currently playing Elle Woods in the on-stage production of Legally Blonde with Stage 8 Theatre School. When she’s not competing, she loves spending time with her family and friends and eating pizza, which she misses when dieting for her competitions.

“I love the environment and sense of routine that Kickboxing creates, it feels like my second family” – Charley Davies

The WKU World Championship event runs every year all over the world, with the 2022 event taking place just up the road from our University in Cardiff’s Sport Wales National Centre. You can learn more about this incredible event here.
